Guild Policies

One thing that separates the Duelists from other guilds is that we take our guild business seriously. A successful guild is more than just a social group - it has to add depth to an already multi-faceted game environment. These rules are easy to follow, but they are very important to maintaining the elements that make the Duelists' Guild a great guild with a positive reputation. Failure to follow these rules may eventually result in expulsion.

Chat Policy

This policy applies only to the guild chat channel. Members are encouraged to engage in conversation on the guild channel whenever they feel compelled to do so. Generally speaking, the rules regarding general guild chat are more relaxed than those imposed by other guilds. Specifically, profanity in general is permitted on the channel. HOWEVER, there are still some boundaries. First, no negative commentary of any sort may be directed at another guild member, regardless of whether or not he/she is listening. Speaking about or to another guild member disrespectfully is a serious offense. Secondly, filters are in place as a tool for those easily offended to protect themselves. Intentional sidestep or workaround of the chat filter is strictly prohibited! If you don't understand what that means, ask another guild member to demonstrate for you. Finally, if a guild member expresses discomfort with subject matter being discussed, the subject should be dropped or taken to a private medium. In other words, terms and content that ANY guild member listening in deems offensive is always in violation of this policy, even if the previous wording does not specifically prohibit that language or subject matter.

Keep the chat general enough that other guild members can participate. This policy is mostly common sense, but does prohibit some types of conversations. For example, should you have an offline friend in the guild with you, avoid discussing other friends, recent local events and so on that other guild members may not know anything about. You can discuss offline subject matter, but please keep it general enough that other members may contribute. Also, should you be in a group or simply in the same region as another guild member, keep conversations that only concern the two of you out of the guild chat. For example, if you're questing with another guild member, don't spam the guild chat with conversation that would be better suited for say, tell or group channels. Again, this isn't a very constricting policy, but it must be laid out here where it is visible to everyone.

Dueling Policy

This policy is very changeable, and guild members are encouraged to offer suggestions and corrections regarding it. Here the guild leadership dictates what is considered 'honorable' dueling, rules that guild members must strictly adhere to at all times. Adherence to these guidelines ensures that those not in the guild perceive it as consisting of respectable, honorable duelists, which is essential to maintaining a positive guild reputation. Because this policy is so closely tied with guild image, any member who ignores it is in danger of dismissal. The following guidelines are absolute, unless the duelists make agreement to nullify them before the duel begins.

  • Intentional abuse of gameplay technicalities is unacceptable. This includes exploitation of any known bugs, and specifically prohibits 'stepping through' an opponent to avoid a melee attack or spellcast. Please note that the setting you choose for dueling is part of the dueling experience, and should be incorporated into your strategy. In MOST cases, taking advantage of the surroundings is not a dishonorable tactic. If you are aware of another gameplay issue that is typically exploited in your dueling experience, please inform the guild so that your issue can be added to this document.

  • Instant-use consumables (potions, scrolls, etc) and bandages are prohibited in a duel. A duel should be about strategy, equipment and character development, not about who spent more money on potions. Currently, the guild recognizes self-summonable items as an exception (like the mage's water or warlock's stones). If you can think of any other items that should be recognized as exceptions or specifically prohibited, please inform the guild!

  • Allowing an associate to in any way affect the outcome of a duel is unacceptable. This applies especially to borrowed items or buffs prior to a duel, and to interference of any sort during a duel. If you can't do it alone, you shouldn't do it at all when dueling.

  • Whether you win or lose, always behave with dignity and self-control. Remember that when dueling, you are the face of the guild. When you win, never talk down to your opponent or boast. When you lose, never insult or accuse, no matter how dishonorable your opponent may have been.

    Profession Policy

If you have a production profession, please occasionally remind the guild membership. Although you are not required to provide guild members with your product, should you choose to do so, you may only charge cost of materials (based on auction house prices). Given the necessary materials, you may not charge at all. This policy is in place to not only provide guild members with reduced prices, but also to give producers an opportunity to practice without spending money out-of-pocket for materials. You may charge full auction house price to initiates - doing so may motivate them to move up to duelist.

If you do not have a production profession or simply come across a potentially valuable item that you cannot use yourself, please offer to sell or give your items to guild members before auctioning them off or selling to vendors. If you sell them, be sure to only ask a fair price - never try to overcharge your fellow guild members!

    Inactivity Policy

Several guilds on our server boast populations of several hundred, but recent research into a handful of those guilds has revealed that a large portion of their membership is very much inactive. It is the policy of the Duelists to ensure that our population count reflects only active membership. To sustain this goal, any character that accumulates 14 consecutive days of inactivity will be removed. Inactivity is not frowned upon - any character who is removed for inactivity is certainly welcome to return at any time.

    Tabard Policy

The guild has registered a tabard design. Members may purchase a tabard from the tabard merchants in Ironforge, Stormwind and Darnassus Visitors' Centers. Though members are never required to wear tabards, it presents a unified image that is especially effective during guild events when members gather.

    Alternate Character Policy

Although guild recruitment is typically aimed at levels 15 and up, you may have your alternate characters guilded at any level. Your event credits are NOT transferable or shared amongst your characters, so be sure to always attend events on the same character if you are trying to rank up. However, should you reach the rank of gladiator or captain, you may declare your alternates while signed in on your main character to have them promoted as well. No, there is not a way to indisputably prove that the characters you name are indeed on your account, but if "your characters" are somehow ever logged in at the same time, ALL of them will be immediately removed from the guild and blacklisted. This policy is a lenient one that allows trusted guild members to wield their gladiator or captain authority on any of their characters - dishonesty in this regard will undoubtedly result in your expulsion from the guild. Should you have two accounts, DO NOT declare the alternates on your second account, as you will be setting yourself up for a mistake.
